Turkish tanks are carried towards Sirnak Tuesday, near the Turkish-Iraq border.
Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has given the go-ahead for all necessary measures to be taken against Kurdish rebels. This includes a possible incursion into northern Iraq where many are hiding.
Tuesday's decision follows a series of rebel attacks on security forces. The attacks have claimed the lives of 15 soldiers since Sunday. But parliament would still have to authorize any full-scale cross-border operation.
Analysts say the move is still unlikely, and Ankara remains under heavy pressure from its NATO ally the US, not to do so. The US cautions that such action could destabilize Iraq's most peaceful area and, potentially, the wider region.
