The Iranian president has left Tehran for New York, where he's to attend a UN General Assembly meeting.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad highlighted the importance of the UN General Assembly. He says the annual meeting is vital for countries to voice their positions. He says the American people have been denied "correct information," and his visit will give them a chance to hear a different voice.
Ahmadinejad's trip comes amid high tensions between Washington and Tehran, with the US continuing to accuse Iran of secretly trying to develop nuclear weapons and arming militias in Iraq.
Ahmadinejad is scheduled to address the Assembly on Tuesday. He is also set to deliver a speech at Columbia University on Monday.
