CPC to amend Party Constitution

The Communist Party of China is going to amend its Constitution at its upcoming 17th national congress.
The issue was discussed at a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, presided. The amendment will reflect the scientific concept of development and other major theoretical developments of the Party. Gui Xiaozeng has the details.
The Political Bureau decided to submit a draft amendment to the CPC Constitution to the Plenum of the CPC Central Committee for further discussion on the ninth of October, before it's taken up by the national congress.
The amendments will be made under the guidance of Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thoughts of the "Three Represents". It will reflect the major strategic thoughts of the CPC Central Committee has set forth since the last national Party Congress was held five years ago.
The amendment should also include important theoretic concepts, strategic thoughts and working arrangements which are to be established in the report made to the next National Party Congress.
The proposed amendment is in line with the changes and development of the Party's tasks and situation. It will be beneficial for the whole Party to better study and abide by its Constitution. It will also help further advance the building of socialism with Chinese characteristics and Party building.
The constitution was formally put forward by the 16th CPC Central Committee at its third Plenum in 2003. It stresses people-centered development that is comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable.
Monday's meeting also discussed a draft report to the upcoming Party Congress and decided to bring it up at the Plenum of the 16th Party Central Committee for further review.
The meeting required all Party members to stick to the policies of reform and opening up, advance scientific development, promote social harmony and strive together for new victories in the process of building a well-off society in an all-round way. It also called on members to understand the new requirement of the country's development and new expectation of the people to draw guidelines and policies adapted to the times and the people.
The CPC national congress is held every five years. The upcoming congress is proposed for October 15th
