Iran still defiant against US

Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khameneii says the United States is powerless over Iran. He made the comment in a speech to the country's Revolutionary Guard commanders on Sunday.

Khameneii's speech was broadcast live on state television, during which he echoed sentiments of Iran's late supreme leader Ayatollah Khomeini. He said the US has no effect on Iran. Iran is under huge pressure from a US-led campaign to halt its alleged nuclear programme.

On Friday, a US court ordered Iran to pay more than 2.6 billion US dollars, to nearly 1-thousand family members, and a few survivors of the 1983 marine barrack bombing in Lebanon. The attack in Beirut killed 241 soldiers.
