China aims high in renewable energy usage

China is aiming to raise the ratio of renewable energy usage in its total energy consumption to 15 percent by 2020. China's top economic planning body says the initiative aims to reduce green house gas emissions and promote sustainable economic growth. The plan will cost China two trillion yuan over the next 13 years.

Hydro power, solar energy, wind power and biological energy will all be key fields in the development of renewable energy.

It is estimated that by 2020, China will be able to generate three hundred million kilowatts of hydro power, thirty million kilowatts of wind power, thirty million kilowatts of biological energy, and one point eight million kilowatts of solar energy per year.
