President Hu arrives in HK for 10th anniversary celebrations

Chinese President Hu Jintao arrives in Hong Kong this morning. During his three-day visit to the SAR, Hu will attend a series of activities celebrating the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China.

It's been raining in Hong Kong this morning but that hasn't dampened people's cordiality to greet China's top leader. President Hu Jintao's appearance on the red carpet at noon sparkled cheer and warm greetings. Welcoming him and his delegation at Hong Kong International Airport was Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR, Donald Tsang and other principal officials of his administration.

Speaking as he arrived, Hu Jintao hailed the achievements Hong Kong has made over the past ten years. He confirmed that the "one country, two systems" policy, has secured consistency in social and economic systems. He said he is expecting further achievements and confirmed that he will attend various celebration activities.

During his visit to Hong Kong, the Chinese President will attend the flag raising ceremony on July 1st a mass gathering marking the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China and the inauguration of Hong Kong's third term government.

In a display confirming central government's support to the development of CEPA, the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement, Hu will cut the ribbon to launch the Western Corridor a five-and-a-half-kilometer 3-lane carriageway connecting Hong Kong with the Chinese mainland.

Hu will also visit the People's Liberation Army's garrison in Hong Kong, and will witness the presentation of gift pandas from the mainland to Hong Kong.

The three-day tour is Hu Jintao's first visit to Hong Kong since becoming the country's top leader. Attending a series of events marking Hong Kong's return to China, Hu is demonstrating the central government's support to the SAR's development and the leader's confidence in the success of the "One China, two systems" policy.
