Spokesman: More Taiwan compatriots will understand "one country, two systems"

Special Report: HK 10 YearsWith the successful practice of "one country, two systems" in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, more and more Taiwan compatriots will understand and identify "one country, two systems," said Yang Yi, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, at a press conference in Hong Kong on Wednesday.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China and Hong Kong has made remarkable achievements under guidelines such as "one country, two systems", "Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong", and "high degree of autonomy", he said.
With the successful practice of "one country, two systems," more Taiwan compatriots will understand and identify the principle of "one country, two systems," which is conducive to peaceful reunification of the country, he said.
After Hong Hong's return, the central government adopted favorable policies to promote exchanges between Hong Kong and Taiwan, at the same time, Hong Kong acts as a bridge for mainland and Taiwan.
From 1997 to the end of 2006, Taiwan compatriots coming to the mainland via Hong Kong reached about three million person-times yearly and trade between mainland and Taiwan via Hong Kong also exceeded 10 billion yuan (1.3 billion U.S. dollars) a year.
