Thailand's former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has vowed to return home soon. His decision comes after an investigation body announced plans to freeze his financial assets.
Thaksin's lawyer said in Bangkok on Tuesday that the former Prime Minister will decide when to come back in the next few days. The current Prime Minister, Surayud Chulanont, said Thaksin does not need permission to return.
Earlier, the Assets Examination Committee said it will freeze assets of Thaksin and his wife, worth one and a half billion US dollars.
This follows months of investigations by the special committee into alleged corruption during Thaksin's five years in office. Thaksin was ousted from power last September.
