Thailand says it will seize assets worth 1.5 billion US dollars from ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife.
This, after months of investigations by a special committee into alleged corruption during Thaksin's five years in office.
The Assets Examination Committee says bank accounts and other financial assets belonging to the couple will be frozen. The committee says if the courts find that Thaksin and his wife acquired the assets illicitly, they will be seized by the government.
The investigative body was set up after Thaksin was deposed in a bloodless coup last September. He was ousted after demonstrations accusing him of corruption and abuse of power.
