China held a high ranking seminar earlier today to commemorate the 10th anniversary of implementing the Basic Law of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The seminar involved top leaders from the mainland and Hong Kong.
At the seminar, China's top legislator Wu Bangguo reaffirmed the central government's support for Hong Kong. He also stated China's determination in maintaining the "One China, Two System" policy.
According Hong Kong Chief executive Donald Tsang, the basic law lays down a solid foundation for Hong Kong's development. He also says that, since Hong Kong has returned to the mainland, its unique international characteristics have been maintained and it enjoys a high level of autonomy.
Under the name of " Hong Kong, China", the special administrative region participates in over 190 international organisations whose membership is not limited to states, including APEC and WTO.
