China, another word for porcelain with a dainty, nostalgic feel, speaks for the prominent position the country once held in the area. The word has long been adopted by the world. And thanks to its irresistible appeal, china, together with the art of porcelain-making, has also become universal - and an area where exciting artistic fusions take place.

An exhibition currently held in Beijing has put together works by some of the world's most famous porcelain-makers. Among those represented are the distinguished manufacturers who provided porcelain for Europe's royal houses. Pieces from the courts of France, Denmark, Germany and Russia all feature. The styles range from the baroque to art nouveau.

China itself is represented by Franz from Taiwan: a company that has a reputation for combining a highly traditional working process with modern design ideologies.
