Ten years after coming to power as Britain's Prime Minister, Tony Blair is taking key steps to pave the way for his successor. A TV interview on Tuesday saw Blair drop hints about just who was likely to be the next British Prime Minister.

Tony Blair appeared on a breakfast television programme in London, and spelt out his timetable for stepping down next week. He also dropped broad hints of who was likely to succeed him as Britain's next Prime Minister.

"It will be time for new leadership. In all probability, a Scot will become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. And that's someone who has built one of the strongest economies in the world and who, as I've always said, would make a great Prime Minister," says Tony Blair.

Many see this is as a clear endorsement of the Scottish Treasury chief, Gordon Brown.

Tony Blair said last year that he would resign by autumn this year. It's also long been thought that Blair would announce his departure soon after reaching Tuesday's milestone of 10 years in power.

Blair's Labor Party was elected on May the first, 1997, ending 18 years of Conservative rule.
