Taiwan businesses association holds 1st congress in Beijing

Special Report: Cross-strait forumChina's first national-level Taiwan-funded enterprises association held its first congress in Beijing, on Sunday.
Taiwan businessmen say that seeking peaceful development of cross-strait relations is the desire of Taiwan-funded companies. And a harmonious investment climate is prerequisite for future development.
Chang Han-wen was elected Chairman of the Association of Taiwan Investment Enterprises on the Mainland. It's a non-profit organization initiated by Taiwan business people and has more than 200 deputies.
Yeh Hui-te, vice chairman, ATIEM, said, "The association is a completely economic body, with a major mission of serving the Taiwan businessmen in the mainland."
Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, Chen Yunlin met with newly-elected leaders of the association. Chen expressed his hope that the association will provide legal protection to businessmen from Taiwan and promote their development.
The first local association of this kind was founded in Beijing in 1990. Since then, over 100 local associations of enterprises funded by Taiwan businessmen have been established in China's mainland with a total of over 20,000 members. It accounts for one third of the total Taiwan-funded enterprises in the mainland.
