In Moscow, Hu Jintao and Vladimir Putin both went to the opening of the "Year of China in Russia".
This is Hu Jintao's third state visit to Russia since he took office in 2003. The first thing he'll do is to open the Year of China in Russia, which follows the Year of Russia marked in China last year.
But behind this cultural event is the two giant neighbors' ambition to bolster economic cooperation and coordinate their approach to regional and global issues.
Last year bilateral trade increased by 15 percent to hit 33 billion dollars. But that was still only 2 percent of China's total trade volume. The two presidents want to boost their trade to to 80 billion dollars by 2010.
