China has responded to the joint security declaration issued by Japan and Australia. The Chinese Foreign Ministry says it hopes relevant countries will step up efforts to enhance mutual trust and maintain peace and stability in the region.

It also stresses China's commitment to peaceful development, adding that the country's defense programme poses no threat to other countries.
