The first news conference of this year's National People's Congress session has been held. The spokesman for the session, Jiang Enzhu, briefed the press on the session's agenda, as well as the NPC's work. Xu Zhaoqun has the story.
Jiang Enzhu announced the annual session of the NPC will open Monday, and close March 16th.
He said preparatory work for the session has been completed, and the agenda has been approved.
The spokesman also outlined the agenda's highlights over the next few days.
Jiang Enzhu, spokesman of NPC session, said, "This year's session will deliberate six reports. Namely, the report on the work of the government, planning, the budget, and the work report of the NPC Standing Committee, the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate."
Highlights of the agenda also include discussions of two important pieces of legislation: draft proposals on a Property Rights Law and Corporate Income Tax Law.
Jiang Enzhu said the National People Congress attaches great importance to the deliberations over the draft property law, as it involves a number of key issues. They have so far reviewed it seven times and held more than a hundred meetings.
The session will also hold a series of press conferences on diplomacy, international affairs, economic and social development, macroeconomic management and government finance.
This year's session will work out a number of new measures to facilitate global coverage of the NPC and CPPCC sessions. For the first time, foreign journalists can interview delegates, and delegations' residences are public knowledge.
In addition, major documents for this year's NPC and CPPCC sessions have been translated into several foreign languages.
A number of new measures have been taken to make this year's NPC session more open to the public. Many of the measures are foreign press oriented, so reporters can more easily access the work of the Legislature. And it's all geared towards letting people know more about China's most important political event.
