NPC press conference held

The annual session of the country's top legislative body, the Chinese National People's Congress, or the NPC, will open tomorrow in Beijing. A press conference is now being held at the Great Hall of the People to outline the agenda and highlights of the upcoming session.

Among the highlights of the agenda --- a review of the work reports of the government and the legislature. This will include a government work report by Premier Wen Jiabao, as well as the work report of the NPC Standing Committee.

Press conferences will also be available during the session for journalists from home and abroad.

Just ahead of the press conference, the NPC annual session held its preparatory meeting, as well as the first Presidium meeting.

A number of new measures have been taken to make this year's NPC session more open to the public. Many of the measures are foreign press oriented, so reporters can more easily access the work of the Legislature. And it's all geared towards letting people know more about China's most important political event.

Jiang Enzhu says the annual session of the NPC, the country's top legislature, will open on Monday, and close on March 16th.

He said the preparatory work for the important session has been completed.

The spokesman also outlined the agenda highlights over the next few days.
