Special Report: 2007 NPC & CPPCCThe Fifth Session of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC) will officially open next Monday. Deputies and lawmakers are now arriving in Beijing for the session, where they will debate laws and government policies, and raise concerns about the country's development.
NPC deputies from Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions arrived at Beijing International Airport on Friday afternoon.
NPC deputy Liu Yiliang said, "We will thoroughly discuss the draft proposal of Property Rights Law and Corporate Income Tax Law. Hong Kong and Macao invest a lot in the mainland so the Corporate Income Tax Law is our major concern."
Another NPC deputy Rita Fan said, "We are satisfied with what the government has achieved over the past five years. We would like to know their plans for next year and what the future holds."
Some deputies say they have many suggestions to make at this year's session, mostly on the country's social and economic development.
NPC deputy Feng Yulan said, "Food safety is very important because it concerns people's basic living standards. I brought a motion on food safety too."
NPC deputy Zhang Jiakun said, "We have carried out in-depth study on the topics to be raised during this year's session. We are well prepared for the deliberations and discussions."
Almost three thousand deputies from around China will attend Monday's NPC session.
