Employees at three German Airbus plants -- all part of the giant's network of factories in Europe -- are forcing production to a standstill.

Workers blocked the gate of the Varel plant in northern Germany on Thursday. It is one of the two plants in Germany that face sale or closure.

Melanie Heiner, Airbus employee, said, "We do not know how the future looks. So far we keep hoping that we maybe have a chance. When we get sold, we'll probably stay here. But it doesn't look so rosy."

Airbus announced on Wednesday that 10,000 jobs will be cut over four years. The company hopes this will help it recover from recent financial setbacks.
