There is less than a month to go before the Spring Festival. And college students were the first big group in China to start travelling, thanks to the start of their winter vacation.

Pressure is also on authorities in other parts in the country to find a seat for each young traveller. In Northeast China's Harbin, student-passengers for a single day hit 78,000. A nationwide ticket-selling network promises a seat for each student who has to transfer on the way home.

college student, said, "My home is in Fujian. But I studied in Harbin, where I can buy ticket from Beijing to Xiamen. It's convenient."

According to the railway administration, the student travel-peak is expected to peak from Thursday to Saturday this week.
