Gunmen kidnap 5 Chinese in Nigeria

Five Chinese telecommunication workers have been kidnapped in Nigeria. The abduction took place in Emuoha in the southern Rivers State on Friday.

Unidentified armed kidnappers attacked workers at Chinese communication company at round six-thirty am local time. They also stole personal belongings worth thousands of US dollars. Rivers State in the troubled Niger Delta region is notorious for poor security.

Nigerian police have vowed to crack down on Chinese hostage takers. Reacting to a formal complaint by the Chinese Ambassador, the Nigerian government have promised to secure the release of foreign hostages. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.
