Bush: "Good progress" on Iraq strategy to be unveiled next month

US President George W. Bush says he is making "good progress" in coming up with a new Iraq strategy, which he planned to unveil next month.

Bush said in a speech at his ranch at Crawford, Texas, that it was important for Americans to understand that success in Iraq is vital. He gave the speech after meeting with his national security team. He said he would have more consultations before announcing a policy change in January, 2007.

Despite early administration predictions that the post-war process would be a "cakewalk", Iraq remains violent and unstable.
