China: Broadcast satellite fails

The communications and broadcast satellite SinoSat 2 has failed in orbit.

The Sino Satellite Communications Company said one reason is the satellite's inability to deploy its solar panels.

SinoSat 2 was launched in October to transmit live television signals and serve digital broadband multimedia systems for the mainland, Macao and Taiwan. The company said it's drafting a replacement plan, and a substitute satellite should be ready in three years.
