Extensive flooding in east Africa

UN officials say up to 1.8 million people have fled their homes or been otherwise affected by floods in Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia. This, following heavy rains in East Africa.

International aid groups have been air-lifting food, blankets and other emergency supplies to parts of East Africa. That's where the catastrophic floods have killed at least 150 people this month. Meanwhile, the UN Refugee Agency says more than 78,000 refugees have lost dwellings in north-eastern Kenya's Dadaab refugee camp. The area is home to thousands of refugees from Somalia and Sudan. As many as three camps have been cut off by the floods. UN officials say it is difficult to reach many of the affected areas because bridges and roads have been washed away.
