US President George W. Bush has left Indonesia after his six-hour visit to the country on Monday. During his short stay in Jakarta, local people gathered to demonstrate that he is not welcomed. Thousands staged rowdy rallies against the American foreign policy in the Middle East and Iraq. Every day this month, demonstrations have been carried out by Islamic hard-liners, students, housewives and taxi drivers. Nearly ten thousand turned out in Bogor on Monday. This Presidential retreat in Jakarta is where Bush met his Indonesian counterpart Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Thousands of police and armed soldiers patrolled the streets. Barbed wire fences were set up along the roads and several trucks were mounted with water cannons.
