Sudan accepts in principle to UN-AN force

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan says Sudan has accepted in principle. UN and African Union forces in its war-ravaged region of Darfur. But it's yet to agree on the number of troops deployed.

Annan said the troops should be sourced from Africa as far as possible, and the command and control structure would be provided by the UN. The Security Council has called for a deployment of seventeen thousand international peacekeepers to replace the AU forces in Darfur. Diplomats said Sudan had concerns over both the size of the force and its command structure. They said less than twelve thousand troops is acceptable.
