Japan has banned the export of luxury goods to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Just a day before the announced embargo, the DPRK had accused the island nation of adopting a hostile policy toward it.
Japan's cabinet has approved a ban on exports of 24 kinds of luxury goods to the DPRK, including cars, watches, liquor, cigarettes, jewelry, perfume, and caviar.
The UN Security Council approved a resolution that among other measures blocks trade with the DPRK following its nuclear test.
Japan's chief cabinet secretary Yasuhisa Shiozaki said: "The measures are designed to block the transfer from Japan of goods that we assume will be used by DPRK leaders for themselves or supplied by the leaders."
