US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfield has acknowledged that progress in the Iraq war has not been going "well enough or fast enough". It's his first remarks since announcing his resignation. Rumsfield said little about his impending departure during a speech at Kansas State University. Instead, he offered a retrospective on his two tours as defense chief. His previous appointment as Secretary of Defence was during the Ford administration, nearly over three decades ago. Rumsfield said the major combat operations in the Iraq war were an enormous success. But he admitted that the second phase has not been going as well. But as Democrats were in the process of winning back control of both houses of Congress during midterm elections. Rumsfield decided that it would be "better for everybody" that he resign his post at this time.
