Anti-corruption work has been a priority for the Chinese Government and the Communist Party of China for a long time, with considerable achievements along the way. But China does not only fight corruption alone -- it also has international partners.
The CPC monitors the behavior of party members. In 2005 alone, over 11 thousand members were expelled from the Party for corruption. Over 7 thousand have been charged in court. China has also strengthened cooperation with other countries, to bring fleeing corrupt officials to justice.
As of February, 2006, China had signed nearly 80 legal documents with over 40 countries, including 50 bilateral legal cooperation agreements and 25 extradition treaties.
In 1987, China signed its first bilateral legal cooperation agreement with Poland.
In 1993, China signed its first extradition treaty with Thailand.
In 2003, China signed "The UN Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime" and "The UN Convention Against Corruption".
In 2004, a corrupt Chinese official who fled to the United States was sent back to China for the first time. China and the US began their cooperation on anti-corruption issues.
In 2006, an Extradition Treaty was signed with Spain. The treaty was China's first with a developed country.
