Japan's new Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, has pledged to follow the 1995 statement made by the then Premier, Tomiichi Murayama. The statement saw Murayama apologize and express remorse for Japanese colonial rule and atrocities committed during World War Two. Abe made the remarks while taking questions from members of Japan's lower house. But he did not give clear answers about Class-A war criminals serving as war leaders. Abe also shied away from the topic of future visits to the Yasukuni War Shrine.
