Supachai Panitchpakdi isn't the only candidate for the post of interim prime minister in Thailand. Others include an former general and a president of the supreme court. Meng Lingqi has more.
Observers view Supachai Panitchpakdi's international standing as a clear benefit, with careers in diplomacy, finance, trade and government all under his belt.
But this week comments from the generals have suddenly put Surayod Chulanont in the spotlight.
They said the new prime minister might be an ex-military man, and the former Supreme Commander appears to fit the bill.
Right now he's an advisor to the King - a position that underlines his reputation for integrity and intelligence.
Other candidates include current Supreme Court President, Charnchai Likhitjittha and the President of the Supreme Administrative Court, Ackaratorn Chularat.
A timetable for the announcement isn't clear, but when they took power, the Council of the Democratic Reform under Constitutional Mornachy said the Interim Prime Minister would be in place by October 4th.
The interim Prime Minister will succeed Thaksin Shinawatra who was overthrown on September 19, after the army said he was guilty of corruption and fraud.
