Lien Chan is set to leave Xi'an later today and head for Shanghai, the last leg of his mainland tour. As one of the most dynamic cities in China, the eastern metropolis has attracted a lot of investment from Taiwan. The Kuomintang chairman will hold talks with Taiwan businesspeople working there, who say Lien's visit will help the Taiwan authorities become more aware of what they really need.
General Manager Gordon Chang, Shanghai Fortunecaffe Co. Ltd., said, "As for business people, we are demanding favorable conditions: namely, the early realization of the three direct links across the straits."
Chang added, "I hope all parties in Taiwan can visit the mainland more. It will help them better understand the demands of mainland-based Taiwan businesspeople. Their visit should also have a nation-wide focus, and not just concentrate on the big cities like Beijing and Shanghai."
