In related developments, China sent its eighth batch of emergency supplies on Friday. A Boeing 7-4-7 left Beijing for Indonesia and Sri Lanka accompanied by officials from the People's Liberation Army, who'll inspect affected regions in both countries.

The relief goods organized by the PLA's General Logistics Department are worth over 2 million US dollars. They include tents, instant noodles, biscuits, medicine and power generators.

The plane will first land at Medan in Indonesia and then fly to Sri Lankan capital Colombo later on Saturday.

This is the first time the PLA's logistics officials have been sent to the tsunami-hit regions.

Liu Yihe, deputy director of Communications Office of PLA General Logistics Dept., said: "We have sent officials there to deliver the relief goods and show the local people the Chinese government cares. They will also learn about their reconstruction needs and make relevant preparations to help them."

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization has praised the Chinese rescue team working in Indonesia's Banda Aceh, which was worst hit by the tsunami.

China has sent two rescue teams to Indonesia's Aceh province. The Chinese medical squad has treated nearly 10,000 local patients so far.
