China welcomes EU decision

The Chinese Foreign Ministry says the EU's statement marks a significant step in full development of relations between China and the European Union.

Zhang Qiyue, spokeswoman of China Foreign Ministry, said, "In this statement, the European Union has expressed its political will to lift the arms embargo against China, and to work towards that. China welcomes this positive expression. We hope the EU will make a final decision to totally lift the arms embargo as early as possible, based on the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the EU. We think the China-EU Joint Statement released in the Netherlands adds significantly to the future of Sino-EU relations. The statement reflects the consensus and results the two parties have reached on many aspects. And also, it expresses the two parties will to continue cooperation, and sets the field for cooperation in the future. We think positive results have been achieved at this China-EU summit."
