Iran plans to suspend some nuclear activities

Iran says it has prepared to temporarily suspend some of the country's nuclear activities. But it also says it won't forego its right to enrich uranium.

In an interview with Iranian state television on Monday, Iran's top nuclear negotiator said Iran has been in discussions with the big three European powers, including Britain, France and Germany.

The three European nations reportedly intend to offer Iran a package of economic incentives in order to strike a deal. They hope to persuade the country to abandon uranium enrichment, a process used to produce fuel for nuclear reactors and weapons.

The UN nuclear watchdog is due to meet in late November to determine Iran's compliance. An unsatisfactory judgment could lead to Iran's file being referred to the UN Security Council, which has the power to impose sanctions on Iran.
