Russian president continues China visit

Russian President Vladimir Putin continued his state visit to China with a trip to the city of Xi'an. This, after wrapping up his two-day stay in Beijing on Friday afternoon after meeting top lawmaker, Wu Bangguo, and Premier Wen Jiabao. The leaders discussed issues of mutual concern, agreeing to push forward their strategic partnership.


Parliamentary relations dominated the talks between the Russian president and the top Chinese legislator.

Wu Bangguo says China's National People's Congress and the Russian parliament have established good cooperative ties in recent years. He pledged to press ahead with such cooperation in the future.

Putin said parliamentary bodies play an important role in developing bilateral relations, and more contacts will help reinforce the strategic partnership between Russia and China. In his talks with Premier Wen Jiabao, Putin called for greater economic cooperation with China.


Putin also agreed with the Chinese premier, who put forward a range of suggestions aimed at increasing bilateral trade.

Wen Jiabao says both sides should further open their markets to each other and regulate trade rules in order to help solve disputes.

The Chinese leader also expressed willingness to increase China's investment in Russia's basic infrastructure and energy sectors.
