Hu, Howard pledge stronger ties

In Canberra, Chinese President Hu Jintao and Australian Prime Minister John Howard have pledged to deepen their countries' relations in a comprehensive way.
At their summit, the two leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in various fields. They also reached consensus on a wide range of regional and global issues.
President Hu said closer ties could be achieved by enhancing high-level dialogue, expanding trade and economic partnership, and strengthening coordination in regional and international issues and organizations.
For his part, Howard described Australia's relationship with China as dynamic. He said the two countries have great potential for increased cooperation in political affairs, energy, education, trade and economy, as well as tourism.
