Relations between China and Chile are at their best in history and Beijing will work with Santiago to push bilateral ties to new heights, Chinese President Hu Jintao said on Saturday.
President Hu Jintao was meeting in Thailand with his Chilean counterpart, Ricardo Lagos Escobar, ahead of the 11th Asia-Pacific Economic and Cooperation meeting scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. During the discussion, President Hu noted that Chile was the first South American country to establish full diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China 33 years ago. Since then, the two countries have deepened their mutual political trust, expanded economic and trade cooperation, and increased exchanges in the fields of science and technology, culture and education. Lagos said China is having ever-greater influence and playing greater role in international affairs, and Chile will further strengthen its cooperation with China. Chile will be hosting next year's APEC meetings.
