Gianluigi Buffon says Italy are not worried by France and that things are different from their last World Cup meeting eight years ago.
The Azzurri will meet Les Bleus in Sunday's showpiece in Berlin, with Marcello Lippi's men starting as slight favourites after their impressive semi-final victory over Germany.
The two have met several times in major championships over the years, with France winning the two most recent encounters - the final of Euro 2000 and the World Cup quarter-final in 1998.
But Buffon believes Italy now have the confidence to make up for those defeats and lift the World Cup for the first time since 1982.
The 27-year-old said: "In comparison to the 1998 World Cup, the national team of Italy is less worried.
"France were at home that time and eight years younger. We had won a few matches but we did not have the confidence needed to beat them.
"This year we have done well in our games and have the conviction that we can keep this up right to the end."
