England striker Jermain Defoe has contacted Sky Sports News to speak of his disappointment following England's World Cup exit at the weekend.
Defoe was filmed in the Caribbean kicking a football on the beach following the defeat to Portugal in the quarter final on Saturday.
The Tottenham star was visibly down as he practiced his kick-ups and after seeing the video on Monday evening, decided to get in touch to air his views.
Sven Goran Eriksson opted to take Theo Walcott to the World Cup ahead of Defoe, but having been involved with the squad in the early stages of preparation, the 23-year-old admits he was upset for his team-mates.
"I saw the video on Sky Sports News last night and it brought home to me how emotional I felt that day," Defoe stated.
"I was reflecting on the recent events and wishing I was out there with the lads.
"Even though I wasn't there, I felt the pain for the boys after the penalty shoot-out. It was a cruel way to go out."
