Italy keeper Buffon dreading shoot-out
Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is haunted by club side Juventus' defeat to AC Milan on penalties in the 2003 Champions League final and is desperate to avoid a similar situation in the Azzurri's World Cup quarter-final against Ukraine.
Buffon was in goal at Old Trafford when Milan, who had Ukrainian striker Andriy Shevchenko in their side, won 3-2 on penalties after the match finished goalless after normal and extra-time.
The Italians, who had been reduced to 10 men early in the second half of their last game against Australia, looked to be heading to extra-time before Fabio Grosso won a penalty at the end of injury time and Francesco Totti drove home the spot-kick.
'Since I was a kid I dreamed of winning games on penalties,' said Buffon.
'But since the Champions League final in Manchester I no longer dream about that.
'I didn't see Totti's penalty kick against Australia.
'If we had to go to penalties against Ukraine I would not look at the penalties taken by my team-mates, it would be too emotional.'
Italy coach Marcello Lippi is not taking any chances, however, and has had his players practising penalty taking on Thursday's training while Buffon has been also spent time in workouts trying to keep out spot-kicks.
Udinese striker Vincenzo Iaquinta was unable to take part in that training having struggled for the past two days with a muscular injury.
He has passed a late fitness test and will be available for the showdown in Hamburg
