Lamps scare

ENGLAND were thrown into panic last night when Frank Lampard suffered an injury scare in training.
Chelsea midfield ace Lamps twisted his ankle at the team’s Baden-Baden camp.
He was immediately hauled off for an intensive course of treatment and coach Sven Goran Eriksson has his fingers crossed Lampard gets the all-clear today.
Lampard is known as a quick healer and believes he will make it, but it is a worry England do not need.
The midfielder has yet to set the tournament alight — he has not scored despite 21 shots at goal, the highest in the tournament. But Lampard is a key part of Eriksson’s plan to beat Portugal in Gelsenkirchen tomorrow.
Eriksson earmarked Owen Hargreaves for a holding midfield role so Lampard and Steven Gerrard can support lone-striker Wayne Rooney.
If Lampard were to miss out it could mean a reprieve for Michael Carrick, who was set to lose his place to Hargreaves.
Alternatively Eriksson could revert to 4-4-2 and play Peter Crouch alongside Rooney with Gerrard and Hargreaves as a central midfield duo.
