Ronaldinho urges Brazil to push the tempo
FIFA World Player of the Year Ronaldinho believes Brazil need to speed up their game if they are to beat Ghana for a place in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
The Brazil midfielder is impressed with the way Ghana have performed in their maiden World Cup campaign and claims the defending champions will not be able to play in second gear as they did in their Group F matches.
Ronaldinho said: 'If we are to play the football we want to play, then we will have to avoid their marking, which means we will have to move the ball quickly.
'But we are improving with every game we play.'
Reiterating the phrase that has been something of a mantra in the Brazil camp since the group ended with a 4-1 win over Japan, Ronaldinho said: 'From now on every game will be like a final and each round will be a tough match.
'We will have to improve again if we are to beat Ghana because they have shown they are a good team.'
Coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has warned his team no-one is entitled to an automatic starting place.
'There is no such thing as a substitute in my team,' Parreira said. 'I have 23 players available, thanks be to God.
'Against Japan I was able to give some players a chance to perform and for those players it was a baptism at World Cup level. That is something that is important because they need the experience.'
It had looked as though Robinho might play instead of Adriano in Parreira's 'magic square' with Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Kaka but a training ground injury to his thigh might now put that plan in doubt.
Initially medical staff had played down the incident but a further analysis raised serious doubts about whether he could play.
The Ghana game could see several moments of history made with Cafu set to play a record-equalling 19th World Cup match for a Brazilian while victory would also see him equal the national record of 16 wins.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo needs only one goal to beat the record he shares with West Germany legend Gerd Muller of 14 World Cup goals.
