Italy's Luca confident of ending goal drought
Luca Toni is confident he will end his goal drought for Italy if he returns to the starting line-up against Australia in their World Cup showdown.
Toni struck 31 league goals this campaign to lead Fiorentina to Champions League qualification but has yet to find the net in Germany.
'I hope I can play,' Toni said. 'We still don't know who will play as (coach Marcello) Lippi only announces the line-up on the day of the game.
'I am very motivated and I cannot wait to score my first goal in this tournament. I believe it will come.'
The Azzurri fans had high expectations that Toni, who finished as top scorer in Serie A and in his national team's World Cup qualifiers, would shine in Germany.
The tall forward was a starter in Italy's first two group games against Ghana and the United States but failure to find the target saw him dropped for the crucial clash against the Czech Republic.
'There's a lot of competition in the team which is good,' admitted Toni. 'Everyone wants to play and so do I.
'I just try to give my best in training and hope to have a chance to help Italy.'
Toni has denied the pressure of playing for the first time in a top international tournament with his nation is affecting him.
'The World Cup is the World Cup,' he said.
'It's a challenge to play and to score but that's what I'm here for.
'I expected it would be like this and even if I haven't scored yet, I am still the same player I was in Florence.'
