　　Ricardo Lavolpe is hoping he can stay on as Mexico coach after the team's second round defeat to Argentina.

　　Mexico lost 2-1 in extra time in Leipzig, but were beaten by a marvellous Maxi Rodriguez goal after a stunning World Cup clash.

　　Though Lavolpe had targeted a quarter final place ahead of the tournament, he is keen to remain in his post.

　　"I would like to continue because people know that we can play good football," said Lavolpe.

　　"But whether I can stay on is impossible to say. My contract has finished now and the president will decide.

　　"You need a little bit of luck in this game, that is very important and we didn't have it tonight."

　　Lavolpe felt injuries to Pavel Pardo and Andres Guardado played a key role in Mexico's elimination as they forced his tactical hand.

　　He added: "It was an even game, just as I expected it to be, and it was a magnificent individual goal that decided it. Having said that, Mexico gave an excellent account of themselves.

　　"Once again, though, we didn't achieve what we came to do, which was to reach the quarter finals at least.

　　"Unfortunately, I couldn't make the substitutions I'd planned to because of the injuries to Pardo and Guardado, and that's very annoying.

　　"We had Omar Bravo and Guillermo Franco, but I had to put Zinha on to get hold of the ball more."
