England will do better, insists Eriksson
England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is convinced his players will produce their best performance of the World Cup so far against Ecuador in the last-16 clash in Stuttgart on Sunday.
The nation have so far failed to impress in their Group B matches against Paraguay, Trinidad and Tobago and Sweden despite finishing top.
The defence came under fire in the draw with the Scandinavians while the departure of Michael Owen through injury has hit the optimism of the supporters.
But the Swede is promising an improvement in the second-round game.
'We have to play better and better,' said Eriksson. 'I strongly believe that we will do better.'
Eriksson, who is expected to play Owen Hargreaves at full-back and Michael Carrick as the holding player in a five-man midfield, is hoping his team's luck will improve after their problems before and during the tournament.
'We had the saga over Rooney and thankfully that's over now,' he told Sky Sports.
'We had no luck with Michael Owen getting injured and I hope now we have no more injuries.'
