　　Rio Ferdinand gave England a World Cup boost by joining in at the start of their final training session before tomorrow's second-round clash with Ecuador in Stuttgart.

　　The Manchester United defender has been sidelined since suffering a groin injury early in the second half of Tuesday's 2-2 draw with Sweden in Cologne.

　　Jamie Carragher was on standby to replace Ferdinand should he fail to recover from the setback.

　　But the 27-year-old appeared to be moving freely enough and took part in ball-work and sprinting in sweltering hot conditions.

　　As expected, Gary Neville appears to be losing his race against time to face Ecuador because of the calf injury sustained nine days ago in training.

　　Neville has been restricted to doing field work with England's medical team and his non-appearance today effectively killed off his hopes of appearing in the last-16 clash.

　　England would have been concerned with the searing heat with temperatures upwards of 30 degrees - with a similar forecast expected for kick-off tomorrow
