　　There is nothing unusual about Shevchenko scoring a goal, but the Chelsea-bound striker will not have grabbed many more important goals than the one that took his country into the last 16. In doing so he also strengthened his claim to the adidas Golden Shoe.

　　The Ukraine skipper notched his second goal of the tournament with a coolly taken penalty and now stands just two behind current top scorer Miroslav Klose. “I’m delighted with the goal, naturally, but even more so with the victory. We didn’t play that well, but there was a lot of pressure on us,” he commented after leaving the field to rapturous applause two minutes from time.
