1.Owen ruled out for five months - report
Michael Owen could be out for up to five months after the England striker reportedly suffered cruciate ligament damage against Sweden.
Owen injured his right knee during the first minute of England's 2-2 draw against Sweden in Cologne and flew back to the team hotel in Baden-Baden ahead of an MRI scan this morning at the Max Grundig hospital at Buhlertal.
The fear is that it is serious ligament damage which would almost certainly mean Owen, who missed the second half of last season with a metatarsal injury, returning to England for treatment.
Sky Sports reported this morning that Owen will be out of action for five months.
Owen's England team-mates Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville were also at the clinic for scans, Ferdinand on a groin injury he picked up in the Sweden game an Neville on the calf problem which has kept him out of the last two matches against Trinidad and Tobago and Sweden.
England midfielder Joe Cole spoke of the team's shock at Owen's injury following the game.
Cole said: 'It's a big blow for us and the team. He's had a difficult 12 months with injury and now he's got a battle on his hands.
'Our thoughts are with him and his family. I hope he'll be back scoring goals for England soon.'

BADEN-BADEN, Germany (AP) -- Michael Owen will miss the rest of the World Cup because of a right knee injury.
The England striker, who was carried off the field Tuesday in the opening minutes of England's 2-2 draw with Sweden in Cologne, had a scan on his knee Wednesday and the results confirmed he will no longer to able to play in Germany.

Both England and Sweden have advanced to the second round from Group B.
Owen had the scan near England's team base in southern Germany, and the Football Association Web site reported he was heading home.
"I think it's quite a serious one," England goalkeeper Paul Robinson said. "Michael won't play any more part in the World Cup. I would think he'd be going home. It's very disappointing for him and the team, as well."
Owen's right knee buckled beneath him after he played a pass. He rolled off the field and lay on the sideline clutching his leg while play continued. He was treated by doctors and then strapped to a stretcher and taken away.
The 26-year-old Owen, who broke his foot on Dec. 31, only returned last month. He had been replaced in both of England's first two World Cup games.
"Unbelievable," Robinson said. "Just as he was getting fit, as well. It's just a very, very unfortunate incident."
Owen made his World Cup debut as an 18-year-old in 1998, scoring an incredible goal against Argentina. He's been a mainstay in England's attack ever since.
This year's World Cup is his fifth tournament for England, but Owen has had a disappointing past two years.
He moved from Liverpool to Real Madrid in 2004, but failed to break into the starting lineup. He moved back to England last season with Newcastle and only played 20 games before getting injured.
"I saw him go down, but I thought he'd be up in the next five minutes and he might have just twisted his ankle a little bit," defender Rio Ferdinand said. "To go in (to the locker room) and find out that he might have done his ligaments for him is devastating and for the team it's very disappointing, as well."
Owen's injury means Wayne Rooney's fitness has now become crucial for England. The Manchester United striker started his first game since breaking his foot on April 29 and lasted 69 minutes.
Without Owen, England has only three strikers left: Rooney, Peter Crouch and 17-year-old Theo Walcott, who has only 25 minutes of international experience and has never played in the English Premier League for Arsenal.
"To lose a player of Michael's quality is bad for the team and it's bad for the squad," Robinson said. "The loss of a striker is going to hit any squad, but we've got Theo, we've got Stevie (Gerrard), who can play up there off the front two. We've got Wazza (Rooney) and Crouchy, who are playing well at the moment. We should be all right."
England plays Ecuador in the second round in Stuttgart on Sunday.
