　　After their unlikely draw against much-fancied Mexico, Angola can still qualify for the Round of 16, an objective that seemed beyond the reach of the African debutants at the outset of the tournament.

　　Now though, they face an Iran side determined to return home with at least a point to their name after two straight defeats consigned them to certain elimination. The scene is set for an enthralling match as both sides prepare to throw caution to the wind.

　　Colours for the game

　　Iran: White shirts, white shorts and white socks

　　Angola: Red shirts, black shorts and red socks

　　How things stand

　　Iran , coached by Branko Ivankovic, lost their two opening Group D matches against Mexico (1-3) and Portugal (0-2) and are already eliminated from the tournament. They are, however, desperate to salvage some pride, and will be keen to reward their vocal travelling support.

　　The story is very different for the Palancas Negras coached by Luis Oliveira Goncalves. The goalless draw secured against Mexico means that Angola can still qualify at the expense of El Tri if they win by more than one goal and the Central Americans lose their final group encounter against Portugal by two goals.

　　Despite their lowly position in the Group D table, the Iranians have actually performed admirably enough in their two matches so far. Much will depend on the form of their leading striker and captain Ali Daei, who has yet to score in Germany.

　　Angola have only conceded one goal so far and have their goalkeeper Joao Ricardo, voted Budweiser Man of the Match against Mexico, to thank for his outstanding displays. The Africans look set to ditch the defensive 4-5-1 formation employed up to now in favour of the more attacking 4-4-2 held together by their captain Akwa.

　　Akwa v Rahman Rezaei

　　. This battle pits the most experienced Angolan forward against a wily Iranian defender who plies his trade in Serie A. Akwa has so far failed to score at Germany 2006 and is desperate to make an impact. Standing in his way is Iranian stalwart Rezaei, whose experience in Italian defensive strategy should stand him in good stead.

　　This is the first ever meeting between the two teams.

　　Ferydoon Zandi, Iran midfielder: We're playing for pride now and we’ll give everything in the last game. We’d like to leave Germany knowing that we finished third in the group, although of course it will be very tough against Angola.

　　Figueiredo, Angola midfielder: We'll give everything against Iran. We must improve in front of goal if we’re to qualify. The draw with Mexico felt like a victory for the players and the whole country. We showed that we didn’t qualify for the World Cup by chance.
